Electrical installation technicians who want to know more about solar photovoltaic technologies and are considering undertaking higher qualifications to become a competent solar PV installers..

How the course is delivered

1 day programme of 6 hours duration or 1 hour per week over 6 weeks.

Progression and benefits

The course will provide you with a fundamental understanding of the technologies associated with the generation of electricity through Solar Voltaic means. It will also provide you with the information required to make a more informed decision about progressing within the renewable energies sector and the possible routes that are appropriate for your specific needs. Additionally, you will gain the confidence to showcase your skills and talents at application and interview for an apprenticeship programme in the renewable industries.

Entry requirements

Applicant should have a keen interest in renewables and should be currently working or aspiring to work in the electrical installation sector.

This part-time course provides an insight into studying at a higher level and the commitment involved.

Building on existing knowledge, it will develop your confidence in;

Understanding the fundamentals of electricity

Understanding the need for the generation of electricity through renewable means

Identification of the hazards associated with electricity

The fundamental principles of the generation of electricity through solar voltaic means

The fundamental principles relating to the storage of electricity

Identification of the major components typically found in solar PV systems.
